Introduction
Religion is one of the most important aspects of civilization. Throughout history religion has had a significant impact on the shaping of our world. Religion still influences us on a daily basis as well as the world around us. As diversity and interdependence throughout our school, community, country, and world increase, it is very important for us to have a sense of awareness of each other's spirituality. By learning more about each other's religious beliefs, we are able to foster tolerance and understanding towards one another. The result of this influences global peace and understanding between individuals.
As you complete this webquest throughout our World Religions unit, you will be taking a deeper look at five of the most common and popular religions throughout the world today. These include Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Christianity. You will do conduct research to investigate different components of each religion such as important symbols, number of followers, who founded it and when, what holy book is used, the country of origin, the main beliefs of the religion, common places of worship, customs or holidays, and how the religion functions today.
Although learning about each of these religions is a crucial objective of this webquest, so is finding similarities between these religions of your own, or aspects of it that appeal to you. We must increase our knowledge about these religions at a deeper level so we can have a better understanding of why people would practice the religion, and how it may be similar to what you do/would practice yourself. Following this webquest, you should be more comfortable with understanding other religions and tolerance of those who may practice a religion that is different than your own.
